In the span of 7 days I had 3 friends reach out and ask about menopause!
When I last shopped at the mall, something I rarely do, and a woman suddenly exclaimed, “I am so HOT. I HATE THIS MENOPAUSE!”
Right then I decided I had to look into natural remedies for this issue that plagues many women.
Thankfully there are herbs that help and foods that balance hormones.
Of course, the standard advice for everything is to drink lots of water, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, get exercise every day and get lots of rest.
Menopause starts between ages 40-50 and most women go thru “the change” at age 51.
Let’s look at some herbs that help balance hormones:
BLACK COHOSH and RED CLOVER
for night sweats, hot flashes, fatigue.
ASHWAGANDHA
is an adaptogen which helps with stress, anti-inflammatory, helps with concentration. Beware, this is part of the nightshade family and is high in oxalates.
RHODIOLA
for stress and to help with that foggy feeling we all get sometimes.
MACA
for energy, hormone balance helps with depression.
DONG QUAI
relieves hot flashes, balances estrogen
Estrogen boosting foods include flax seeds, *sesame seeds, *kale, green cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, broccoli, and cauliflower. Salmon, fresh tuna, *nuts, berries, avocado, lemons are carrots are also recommended.
*If you cannot tolerate oxalates, you need to be mindful of high ox nuts, seeds, vegetables!
Light exercise like walking and yoga, good quality sleep, low stress, lots of water, all of these common-sense things help too.
Honestly, I think we all need a good two or three-month spa vacation to help this process. I am not looking forward to it!
