Part 2: my favorite summer scents

Here is my continuation of summer scents.I like to change up my perfumes once in a while. I switch  from light to floral to citrus scents. Below are some of the prettiest fragrances for the season! These are my favorites. I stay away from heavy perfumes or those with the oriental bases, prefering scents that sit on my skin like a whisper- very understated.

ETERNITY Summer is a fresh scent, one thats not very heavy or “perfumey”. Notes of grapefruit, ginger and passionflower dry into middle notes of pink peony, freesia and muguet. I dont know what muguet is. Must google that one. The dry down features creamy musks, a favorite of mine, white amber and driftwood. I like it for day time, its not heavy or fancy.

CK One Summer offers the delightful smell of watermelon, pear, mandarins and lime leaves. Stop there- I love all of those things. But no, there’s more- middle notes of marigold, verbena, and waterlily blend with patchouli, musk and vetiver and cedarwood. its those last few notes that lend a  uni-sex spark to this fragrance. It smells clean and citrusy.

The closest I’ll get to Santa Barbara- despite my ongoing pleas to my husband to take me there- is Santa Barbara by Leslie Blodgett from her Perfume Diaries collection. The perfume is made up of pepper, lemon, casis and peach blended with iris, jasmine and lily of the valley. I really dig that lily of the valley smell….anyway, its rounded out with moss, musk, cedarwood, patchouli and benzoin. What is benzoin, I couldn’t say. But the perfume is lovely and light. I’m wearing it today and its quite subtle.

This is the White Musk perfume oil from the Body Shop. I like perfume oils because they last forever on the skin. This one is a nice, long lasting scent.

It begins with notes of ylang ylang, with hints of fresh galbanum and basil then continues with velvety musk, oriental jasmine, floral lily, rose and base notes contain velvety musk, oriental jasmine, floral lily, iris, rose, sweet vanilla, fresh amber, patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver, fruity peach.

So many ingredients to make this scent! It doesn’t smell so complicated, its simple and light and ideal for everyday.

The Love Etc. collection from The Body Shop  is such a pretty scent and I love the packaging design. So bright and cheerful, like this jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla blended perfume and body butter.

I love body butters for the fragrance and the skin softening abilities. I like to start with the Love Etc. body butter which contains Community Trade cocoa butter then top it off with the perfume. Layering helps make the scent last longer. The notes in Love Etc  include  pear, neroli, bergamot with jasmine, heliotrope, lily of the valley, base notes include  vanilla, sandalwood, musk cream. YUM. Good enough to eat…almost.

Worth a mention is Bobbi Brown Bath. I wore this everyday for a while then switched to something else. Recently I picked it up and began using it, only to find myself falling in love with the clean, unobtrusive scent all over again. I recommend this one for those who don’t like wearing perfumes but want to smell good or better than good actually.
