A Gua Sha facial sculpting tool is a beauty tool with the simplest design and yet, it’s so effective in improving circulation, reducing facial puffiness, and so much more.  We’ve been trying out several new facial beauty tools, and this petite tool is perfect for depuffing my face.  I started to see visible results after using my Gua Sha tool for about 5-10 minutes per night in the first month!

Even if you’ve heard of Gua Sha before or own a Gua Sha facial tool, I bet some people still wonder how to use a Gua Sha tool on your face?

I saw a few conversations on this topic on Instagram years ago and started reading up on the practice of Gua Sha.

I was so intrigued!

I bought a few different Gua Sha facial tools, and I’m attempting to do it every other day.

I find giving myself a facial massage with a Gua Sha facial tool very relaxing, and I very much enjoy this part of my nighttime clean beauty routine a few times a week.

What Exactly Is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha is a Traditional Chinese Medicine practice and uses a blunt, flat tool to scrape at the skin bringing blood flow to the area and aiding in lymphatic drainage.

Gua means ‘to scrape’ in Chinese while Sha means ‘a reddish skin rash‘.

In Gua Sha, painful spots in the body are identified via acupressure or acupuncture points.  Then, special Gua Sha instruments are used to scrape the skin in strokes.

You don’t actually scrape violently at the top layer of skin, use sweeping, gentle pressure. Years ago, animal horns were used but don’t worry about tracking down a yak horn for your at-home Gua Sha, you can use a Gua Sha tool made from various different healing stones such as rose quartz, gemstones, or jade.

I’ve been using this 100% rose quartz Gua Sha tool & facial roller set and it’s a great starter all-in-one combo.

Gua Sha aids in evening out skin-tone, cell renewal, reducing wrinkles, improving the look of sagging skin, and reducing puffiness around the eye area (my personal main face concern at the moment!).

By moving the Gua Sha tool across your face, you can release and clear out toxins from your skin and pores, resulting in a more radiant complexion.

I like to use a facial oil when I do a lymphatic drainage facial massage with a Gua Sha tool.

Applying a small amount by using my fingertips and a patting motion so it sinks into my skin.

My favorite facial oils to use with Gua Sha is the ACURE Radically Rejuvenating Rose Argan Oil and this PURA D’OR Organic Rosehip Seed Oil.

You don’t have to use anything fancy or expensive, you just want something to help the tool glide gently and effortlessly over your skin.
