Two weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to have my hair done at the Gavert Atelier Salon in Beverly Hills. Located across the street from Neiman Marcus in the heart of the shopping capital of SoCal, the salon is a gorgeous space with natural light pouring in.

Keep in mind that having my hair done is a huge treat as I normally run out and get my hair trimmed at places that charge about ten dollars and drape me in a plastic bib. Hair color is done on the fly at home as needed. I don’t baby my hair as I should, as a result my locks are perpetually dry and frizzy. I’ve done an about face regarding my hair. I’ve tried to have big Jersey girl hair, now I’m looking for healthy hair that can rest flat but look good. I’m thinking less Snookie, more Jennifer Aniston.

Celebrities, models and actors flock to Gavert Atelier to have their tresses lovingly taken care of by the hip staff of experts. Not only is the salon well regarded in the entertainment business, but they are widely known for the gentle, natural color used on hair. Photos of celebs at the salon are always circulating. Before and after my hair was done, both Janice Dickinson and  Bachelorette Ali Fedowtowsky were seen in the salon. Not to mention the cast of Twilight’s Eclipse and many  more famous faces.

I needed a full makeover! It had been so long since my hair had been colored professionally. Kazumi Morton, the colorist who gave new life to my lackluster hair, touched up my roots and added lowlights and highlights to give my hair dimension. She worked quickly and efficiently and having my hair worked on was painless and easy! Easy for me, that is.

I don’t know what kind of color was used but it was wonderful not to be accosted by the sharp chemical smell that usually accompanies professional color. I also had my very pale eyebrows dyed to match my hair – a first for me!

After Kazumi worked her magic, it was the talented Mika Fowler who whipped out a pair of scissors and cut my hair. Mika is a celeb in her own right, she can often be seen as an expert in magazines and on tv. Her client list includes Kristen Stewart and the cast of the Twilight saga, 90210’s AnnaLynne McCord, Watchmen’s Malin Akerman, Dancing with the Stars’ Karina Smirnoff, Paul Abdul and more. Mika is so down to earth and I had a lot of fun  being in her presence.

She first blew dry my hair straight then cut…and cut some more. Mika explained how actresses come into the salon with tortured hair.

Under the bright lights with loads of hairspray, actors and actresses subject their hair to much abuse. They come to Mika needing their hair fixed but they are not able to cut it short. Mika knows how to trim off the dead, dry hair yet keep most of the length. She’s brilliant!

She recommend that I add a little bit of olive oil to my shampoo to give it a moisture surge. The oil will soften the hair but not make it greasy. A great tip!

I loved my hair when MIka finished. It looked so pretty, all straight and blown out with fresh color. I brought my ten year old daughter with me and she too was treated like a star! A stylist blew her hair thick wavy hair straight and I could hear her laughter from across the salon. I think my daughter might be asking for a trip back to Gavert Atelier soon.

I can see how I could become addicted to heading over to Beverly Hills each time I need my hair done. I just can’t get the same level of quality color any where else not to mention a supreme cut.

I highly recommend you check out the Gavert Atelier salon next time you are in the Southern California area.
